When you are on a basilisk task you can choose to slay knights aswell.As others have mentioned, Basilisk Knights are weak to crush and it is best to start killing them once you have a good crush weapon (Zamorakian Hasta; I'd say Bludgeon but based on your post, you're not able to do Sire yet and won't have it).
